Volvo: The e-axle is also coming to Volvo

Volvo Trucks is now introducing an e-axle for the "Electric" FHs. Two years ago, the Swedes had already considered the idea with a model from the 3D printer. Now it is cast in steel.

Looks really heavy, the component. But the called-in drivetrain developers assure me: "The e-axle weighs about a ton." With two motors and a four-speed gearbox. The current central drive has three motors. With the e-axle, you only need two of them, according to the developers. Because overall, it runs significantly more efficiently than the central drive with the I-Shift gearbox. The four-speed gearbox of the new e-axle can also be adapted to the respective usage with fewer gears.

Initially, Volvo plans to offer both drives in parallel.
