IAA Transportation 2024: Volvo Trucks showcases technologies on the road to zero emissions

Volvo Trucks will present its global product range at IAA 2024, which according to the manufacturer has never been stronger than it is today. The new Volvo FH Aero series will be on display. This was recently introduced for Europe, Asia, and Africa. It also includes variants powered by electricity or biofuel. In the US market, the brand new Volvo VNL was introduced on an entirely new platform that includes groundbreaking autonomous technologies. The IAA will be the first opportunity to experience the Volvo VNL in Europe. Fuel efficiency and safety were the primary focus during the development of both truck models.

FM Low Entry & FH16 Aero

The new Volvo FM Low Entry will also be exhibited at the IAA – it is the first truck from Volvo developed exclusively with a battery-electric drive system and exceptional visibility for the drivers, to improve safety in busy urban environments. The legendary Volvo FH16 Aero will be shown with the brand-new, highly efficient 17-liter D17 engine, which increases performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. This truck was designed for the toughest transport tasks with optimized productivity and is certified for HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and Biodiesel B100.

E-axle

Volvo Trucks will also present its upcoming E-axle technology, which is tailored for the next generation of battery-electric and fuel cell electric trucks from Volvo. It enables a higher electric range and optimized driving behavior.

While Volvo Trucks has over five years of experience with electric trucks with customers in 47 countries worldwide, hydrogen is the next step when it comes to future powertrains. In parallel, hydrogen for fuel cell applications and hydrogen in internal combustion engines are being developed to future-proof the company's truck range for all markets and sustainable transport applications around the globe. Both hydrogen-based technologies are expected to be available to customers by the end of this decade.
