Actually, the IAA Transportation is not until September and usually companies are reluctant to reveal their trade show plans beforehand – not Schmitz Cargobull. They already lifted the curtain in June to show what trade show specials are simmering underneath. Only one new feature must remain secret for now.

But let's start from the beginning. Trade journalists, including our Transport editorial team, were invited to the production site in Vreden for two days to learn at the pre-press conference what Schmitz Cargobull will showcase at the IAA Transportation under the motto "Delivering Performance". And that is quite a lot – from semi-trailers to new services.

The pressure in the market is increasing

Firstly, the management team led by CEO Andreas Schmitz reported on the company's figures, which in recent years have been characterized by economic challenges such as Corona and the Russian invasion. Boris Billich, CFO, also spoke about the great pressure placed on customers. Many investments are being held back, and this needs to be adequately addressed. The company itself is investing heavily in the Southwestern European market. It has consistently withdrawn from the Russian market and is now attempting to tap into new markets. Additionally, production prices have been massively increasing for years, Schmitz reports.

"We are trying to compensate for this for our customers – as best as we can," he says.

Significant investments are also being made at the Vreden site: A new assembly hall with automated production is being built on around 4,500 square meters. The goal is to produce up to 80 refrigerated vehicles per day in a two-shift operation. Additionally, Schmitz Cargobull is investing in the "Cargobull Event Campus," an event and training venue located directly next to the company premises.

What's new at IAA - here’s a brief overview:

  • New equipment variants for the S.KO COOL and S.KOe COOL trailer - including a silent floor and a self-developed roll-up door.
  • New single-axle refrigerated trailer S.KO CITY - a nimble transport solution for urban distribution traffic with space for 36 roll containers or 22 Euro pallets.
  • Dry freight trailer S.BO EXPRESS for the secure transport of high-value goods in the courier express service. Now also available with a roll-up door.
  • New dry freight trailer S.BO PACE combined for the first time with the aerodynamic EcoFIX body, specially for the CEP industry.
  • Efficient solutions for combined transport: The interchangeable chassis A.WF and Z.WF and swap body W.BO.
  • Facelift for the container chassis S.CF and S.CF ALLROUND 20-45 now available with an autonomous generator set from the factory.
  • New curtain-sider trailer S.CS X-TOUGH with robust chassis and aerodynamic EcoFIX body.
  • EcoDUO – transport concept
  • New lightweight vehicles Berger ecotrail now with the complete service offering from Schmitz Cargobull – exhibition vehicle Berger ecoCOIL.
  • Trailer tipper S.KI for more payload – with trailer telematics TrailerConnect, digital onboard weighing system, and camera systems.
  • New digital services: Predictive Maintenance, Data Management Center, and Tour-Track
  • Own tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for trailers - equipped for the new UN ECE R 141 standard.
  • “Cargobull PartnerConnect” - the new communication platform for Schmitz Cargobull service partners.
  • The start-up FLEETLOOP, a joint venture between commercial vehicle rental company Greiwing and Schmitz Cargobull, presents a digital solution for rental of commercial vehicles.

And the big secret? It will indeed be revealed only at the beginning of September – stay tuned and we will, of course, report on it.
